Mastering 6-Point Court Footwork: Drills Every Junior Badminton Player Must Practice

In badminton, your feet take you to the shot, your core stabilizes your torso, and your wrist executes the stroke. If your footwork is delayed by even a quarter of a second, your contact point drops, forcing you into defensive lifting.

The Foundation: The Split-Step (Pre-Hop)

Before moving toward any of the six court corners, elite players execute a split-step: a subtle, spring-loaded hop right as the opponent strikes the shuttle. This loads the calf and quad muscles with elastic energy, allowing instant acceleration in any direction.

Mastering Corner Recoveries

Forehand rear court: Drop step, chasse step, scissor kick, and explosive push-off back to center base. Backhand rear court: Pivot step, cross-over step, and high contact reach. Practicing these sequences through shadow drills daily ingrains muscle memory until movement becomes subconscious.
